Inspired Passion

For many in the Christian church, the liturgical year consists of feast days. Some churches celebrate feast days. Among saints with feast days are St. Agnes,St. David,St. Christopher: and the list goes on. St Jude is known as the saint of hopeless situations.The Virgin Mary has feast days. She is honoured for the Immaculate Conception. Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Ghost.

Everyone knows about the nativity or birth of Jesus. Most individuals know it as Christmas- a time for gift giving and frolicking fun. By Ash Wednesday, which occurred in February  2010, parishoners had ashes from the palms used for Palm Sunday placed on their forehead. It was to remind them of their origin. man came from dust; and it is to dust he/she will return one daywhen placed in the earth. After Palm Sunday, the time arrives to commemorate the last Supper,the betrayal in the Garden of Gethsemane, the passion,death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.The forty days known as the Lenten Season culminates with Passion Week.

Good Friday is a day for reflection; but in some cultures,churchgoers look forward to hot cross buns and fish. Those who have cultivated the passion fruit vine will notice it has flowers reminiscent of the crown of thorns and the nail used to pin Jesus to the cross.The juice from the passion fruit can be used as abeverage alone or blended with other juices for a delicious and memorable drink.

With Easter Sunday comes a fifty day waiting period. Believers were  gathered in the Upper Room because they feared the Jewish leaders.While they were there, Jesus appeared to them.later the Holy Spirit empowered them, appearing as cloven tongues of fire. This Pentecost experience commissioned them to go boldly to preach the good news of salvation to all.

This time of the year has inspired countless sermons and many familiar hymns and songs. Those who have been to the 'cross' have entered into a personal relationship with Jesus and are inspired by'the old rugged cross'. They expect to exchange it one day for  an incorruptible crown.

No Greater Love

No greater love had any man.

Jesus came to earth with the perfect plan.

His mission was one only He could fulfill;

Salvation- so he laid down His will.

Jesus knew submission was the only thing to do.

Obedience to God is the way for me and you.

His death would bring redemption to all mankind.

No greater love on earth can any man find.

Love was a part of the perfect plan.

It was the love of the Father that brought Jesus down to man.

Love is the fruit that keeps Jesus Christ inside;

For only in true love can Jesus Christ abide.

No greater love can any man show;

No greater love can anyone know.

A love that is free to all who will believe;

A love that God gives freely to all who will receive.

As vast as the sky, as deep as the ocean,

The love of God is no silly notion.

Sweeter than honey, fresher than dew

Is the love God has reserved for me and you.

The Cross

When I think of the cross

I know I am to blame,

For Jesus Christ who knew no wrong

Hung there and took my shame.

He was the Father’s only Son;

His blood was pure and free.

He hung upon that rugged cross

To pay sin’s  debt for me.

When I think of the cross

I see the print of nails;

And then I think of Jesus’ love…

His love just never fails.

‘Twas   love that made Him leave His home;

‘Twas  love for   you and me.

He bled and suffered there that day

To make me what I ought to be.

When I think of the cross

I thank God I am not a slave.

For after hanging on that cross

Jesus was placed into a grave.

Like He said they destroyed the temple;

But He rose in victory.

Jesus died and left an empty tomb;

All who die in Him are free!

O Calvary

When I focus on the cross

I see Christ hanging there

Weighed down by the sins of man…

Men who mocked Him and did not care.

His eyes stared through the ages

To man’s atrocities.

“Father, forgive them…” is His cry.

It was for man He came to die.

When I focus on Calvary

I know it was not fair

For Jesus Christ the Son of God

Who never knew a sin at all

To bear my sins and all my shame

To suffer and to take my blame.

But when I look into His face

I thank Him for His saving grace.

When I focus on the empty tomb

I think about the Virgin’s womb.

An angel brought long awaited news.

He would be called Jesus; and Jews

Everywhere hungered for the Messiah

Who would free them from bondage.

And He did provide freedom for all mankind.

His victory over death and the grave

Purchased redemption for those He came to save.

On The Cross

A thousand voices teased the Son of God

As he hung on the cross that day.

They mocked Him because they did not believe

Death was the only way.

But jesus Christ stayed on the cross.

A debt He had to pay.

The promise that God made to man

Was lethal, yet it was pure.

The agony, the grief, the pain

All for sin he would endure.

This was the price that Jesus paid;

Now salvation is free and sure.

A thousand voices teased the Son of God

As he hung on the cross that day;

But the Son of God suffered pain…the shame

For a debt man could never pay.

Yes, Jesus Christ endured it all;

It was the only way.

The Risen Christ

I saw the Risen Christ today;

His presence was so bright.

He rolled the dark clouds all away

And bathed me in His light.

He said ,”Be still, and know My Child

I love you and I care.

I like to walk and talk with you;

Just take me everywhere.”

I saw the Risen Christ today;

‘Twas   joy beyond compare.

His Spirit dwells within my heart;

I am glad He is so near.

He Is Alive!

Men saw Him lay down His life and heard Him cry,”It is finished!”

But even after He had drained His life blood

Jesus’ power was not even diminished.

He held fast to the promise that after the long midnight

He would burst forth in power clothed in resurrection light.

Jesus is alive; there is an empty tomb.

Jesus is alive; the earth is no longer a womb!

Those who choose Jesus share the peace His life will impart.

Those who choose Christ have the abiding presence

Of Jesus in the heart.
